The short answer
Driveway resurfacing bonds a thin, polymer-modified concrete overlay to your existing driveway. It covers stains, surface cracks, rust marks and worn spots, and can add a new color, texture or pattern. If the slab underneath is solid, it costs far less than replacement and the driveway is usually drivable again within a few days.
Typical South Florida prices run about $4–$9 per square foot for a standard overlay and $8–$14 per square foot for decorative or stamped-look finishes. A full tear-out and new concrete driveway usually costs more.
Typical price ranges
Per square foot, installed. A two-car driveway is often 600–1,000 square feet.

When the slab has sunk, broken up or drains badly

These are typical South Florida market ranges for 2026, not a quote. Your price depends on the size, the condition of the existing surface and the finish you choose, and is confirmed after the site is seen.
When resurfacing works — and when it does not
- Good candidates: stains (oil, rust from irrigation water, tire marks), worn or flaking surface, hairline cracks, an old color you want to change.
- Poor candidates: large sunken sections, slabs broken into loose pieces, wide cracks that keep moving, or driveways that send water toward the house.
- Tree roots lifting the slab need to be dealt with first; an overlay will crack again over a moving base.
Common driveway problems in Palm Beach County
- Rust-orange stains from well-water irrigation are very common in Palm Beach County and usually come back unless the surface is resurfaced or sealed.
- Mildew and black algae in shaded, humid areas make concrete slippery and dark.
- Hot sun and heavy rain wear out cheap paints and sealers in a year or two.
- HOA rules in many communities control colors and patterns, so check approved finishes before choosing one.
The resurfacing process
- Pressure-clean and remove oil, rust and old sealers.
- Repair cracks and patch damaged areas; keep control joints so the new surface can move with the slab.
- Apply the bonding coat and the overlay by trowel, squeegee or spray texture.
- Add color, pattern or stencil if chosen, then seal.
- Foot traffic is usually fine the next day; cars typically wait a few days, depending on the system and weather.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to resurface a concrete driveway in Palm Beach County?
Typically about $4–$9 per square foot for a standard overlay and $8–$14 for decorative finishes. A 600–1,000 square foot driveway is roughly $2,400–$9,000 for a standard overlay. An on-site look is needed for an exact price.
How long does a resurfaced driveway last?
A properly prepared overlay commonly lasts 10–15 years or more. Resealing every few years keeps the color and protects against stains.
Can you resurface over cracks?
Hairline and small cracks are repaired and covered. Large, moving cracks or sunken sections need to be fixed or replaced first, or they will show through.
Will resurfacing remove rust stains from irrigation water?
Resurfacing covers existing rust stains. Sealing the new surface helps, but fixing the irrigation spray pattern or adding a rust-control system stops new stains.
Is resurfacing cheaper than replacing the driveway?
Usually, yes — often about half the cost of tear-out and new concrete, with less mess and less time without your driveway.
