Flake and quartz floor coating project by Designer Concrete of the Palm Beaches

    Flake & Quartz Floors Florida

Durable, slip-resistant broadcast floors for garages, workshops, lanais and commercial spaces

    The short answer

A flake or quartz floor is a resin coating system with colored chips broadcast into it. The chips are vinyl flakes in a flake floor and colored quartz granules in a quartz floor. Each system is sealed with a clear topcoat. The result is very durable and slip-resistant, and the speckled pattern hides dust and small imperfections. People also call these floors chip, fleck or epoxy flake systems.

Garages are the most common use. The same system also works in laundry rooms, workshops, lanais, showrooms and commercial floors that take heavy traffic and spills.

    Typical price ranges

Typical installed prices in South Florida, per square foot. These are market ranges, not a quote; the price for your floor is set after we see the slab.

    • Full-broadcast flake (epoxy base)

      $4 – $8 / sq ft

The standard system; hides dust and tire marks, good grip

    • Flake with polyaspartic topcoat

      $5 – $9 / sq ft

Faster cure and UV-stable, so it does not yellow in sun

    • Quartz broadcast

      Priced per job

Heavier texture; used where floors stay wet or take hard wear

    • Crack and slab repair

      Added per job

Depends on cracks, spalling and old coatings to remove

These are typical South Florida market ranges for 2026, not a quote. Your price depends on the size, the condition of the existing surface and the finish you choose, and is confirmed after the site is seen.

Flake or quartz: what is the difference?

Flake floors use thin vinyl chips in blends of two to four colors. They are the usual choice for garages and homes because of the color options and the clean, terrazzo-like look.

Quartz floors use small colored quartz granules. The surface is harder and has more texture, so quartz is a good fit for commercial kitchens, wash areas and other floors that are often wet.

    Where these floors work well

    • Garages: the most popular use. See epoxy garage floor coating for garage costs, cure times and hot-tire questions.
    • Laundry rooms, workshops and home gyms: easy to clean, and the coating stands up to dropped tools and weights.
    • Lanais and covered patios: textured and slip-resistant. Areas in direct sun need a UV-stable topcoat.
    • Showrooms, warehouses and commercial spaces: they handle foot traffic, carts and spills.

How a flake floor is installed

    • Check the slab for moisture and mark cracks, spalls and old coatings.
    • Diamond-grind the concrete so the coating can bond, then repair cracks and vacuum.
    • Apply the base coat and broadcast the flakes or quartz until the floor is fully covered.
    • Scrape and vacuum the loose chips.
    • Apply the clear topcoat. Quartz floors often get two coats to lock in the texture.
    • Walking is usually fine the next day; vehicles and heavy use wait a few days, depending on the system and humidity.

    Care

Sweep or dust-mop, and wash with a mild cleaner and water. Avoid harsh acids. If the topcoat dulls after years of use, it can be refreshed without redoing the whole floor.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a flake floor slippery when wet?

The broadcast chips give the surface texture, so it has good grip. For areas that are often wet, a quartz broadcast or an anti-slip additive in the topcoat adds more.

    Can I choose the colors?

Yes. Flakes come in many blends of two to four colors, and the flake size changes the look. See our project photos for finished floors.

Will it yellow in the Florida sun?

Standard epoxy can yellow where sunlight hits it. A polyaspartic or UV-stable topcoat prevents that, and it is the right choice for lanais and garages with the door often open.

How long does a flake floor last?

A properly ground and topcoated flake floor commonly lasts 10–20 years in a home, and the topcoat can be refreshed when it dulls.

Do you install flake floors outside Palm Beach County?

Yes. We work throughout Palm Beach County and in Martin County, including Stuart and Jensen Beach.
