Epoxy garage floor coating project by Designer Concrete of the Palm Beaches

Epoxy Garage Floor Coating in Palm Beach County

Flake, quartz and metallic garage floors built for Florida heat and humidity

    The short answer

A professionally installed garage floor coating turns bare, stained concrete into a sealed, easy-to-clean surface that resists oil, hot-tire marks and moisture. In South Florida the best results come from grinding the slab (not acid etching), repairing cracks, and using a UV-stable topcoat so the floor does not yellow.

Most two-car garages are done in one to two days. Typical installed prices in South Florida run about $4–$8 per square foot for a flake system and $7–$14 per square foot for a metallic finish, depending on the slab and the system chosen.

    Typical price ranges

Prices are per square foot of floor, installed. A typical two-car garage is about 400–500 square feet.

    • Full-broadcast flake (epoxy base)

      $4 – $8 / sq ft

Most popular; hides dust and small imperfections, good grip

    • Flake with polyaspartic topcoat

      $5 – $9 / sq ft

Faster cure, UV-stable, better resistance to hot tires

    • Metallic epoxy

      $7 – $14 / sq ft

One-of-a-kind marbled look; more labor and material

    • Solid-color epoxy

      $3 – $6 / sq ft

Simplest finish; shows dust and scratches more

    • Crack and slab repair

      Added per job

Depends on cracks, spalling and old coatings to remove

These are typical South Florida market ranges for 2026, not a quote. Your price depends on the size, the condition of the existing surface and the finish you choose, and is confirmed after the site is seen.

    Flake, metallic or solid color?

A full-broadcast flake floor is the workhorse choice for South Florida garages. Colored vinyl flakes are broadcast into the base coat until the floor is covered, then sealed with a clear topcoat. The texture gives grip when the floor is wet from rain or a car coming in from a storm, and the pattern hides dust and tire marks.

Metallic epoxy uses pigments that move as the coating levels, creating a marbled, high-gloss surface. It is popular for show garages, home gyms and interiors. Because it is smoother, garage installs usually get a fine anti-slip additive in the topcoat.

Why Florida garages need a different approach

    • Heat and sun: standard epoxy can yellow (amber) where sunlight hits it through an open door. A polyaspartic or UV-stable urethane topcoat prevents that.
    • Hot-tire pickup: tires heated by Florida roads can lift cheap coatings. Proper grinding and a quality topcoat prevent it.
    • Moisture in the slab: many Palm Beach slabs sit close to the water table, so the slab should be checked for moisture before coating; vapor pushing up is a main reason coatings bubble and peel.
    • Salt air near the coast: in Palm Beach, Jupiter, Stuart and Jensen Beach, a sealed floor keeps salt and sand from working into the concrete.

    How the installation works

    • Inspect the slab, check for moisture and mark cracks, spalls and old sealers.
    • Diamond-grind the concrete so the coating can bond (acid etching alone is not enough).
    • Fill cracks and repair damaged areas, then vacuum all dust.
    • Apply the base coat and broadcast flake, or pour and work the metallic coat.
    • Scrape and vacuum loose flake, then apply the clear topcoat.
    • Light foot traffic is usually fine the next day; cars typically wait a few days depending on the system and humidity.

    DIY kit or professional install?

Store kits cost less, but they are thin, water-based coatings applied over a slab that is usually only washed or etched. In a Florida garage they often lift under hot tires within a year or two. A professional system costs more because most of the work is in the preparation and the coating is several times thicker.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to epoxy a two-car garage in Palm Beach County?

A typical two-car garage (about 400–500 square feet) usually lands between roughly $1,800 and $4,500 for a flake system, and more for metallic finishes or slabs that need major repair. The exact price is set after the floor is inspected.

How long does an epoxy garage floor last in Florida?

A professionally installed, ground and properly topcoated floor commonly lasts 10–20 years in a residential garage. The topcoat can be refreshed if it dulls.

Will the floor be slippery when wet?

Flake floors have natural texture. Smoother finishes such as metallic epoxy can get an anti-slip additive in the topcoat.

Can you coat over an old painted or epoxy floor?

Usually the old coating has to be ground off first so the new system bonds to bare concrete. This is checked during the estimate.

How soon can I park in the garage?

Walking is usually fine within 24 hours. Cars typically wait 3–7 days depending on the coating system and the humidity.
